Liability covers damages for accidental property damage or bodily injury caused by you or any member of your household who is specifically listed on your policy while operating a car covered by the policy. This coverage applies only if the driver is legally responsible (at fault) for the damage.
Some policies are "named insured" policies and some are not. A "named insured" policy will not cover anyone except the actual listed drivers on the policy. The other type of policy covers any driver who resides in the household. The "named driver" policy is more restrictive and requires that any driver to be covered be listed so the company can look at driving history (CLUE reports and MVR's) and rate for the exposure of the listed drivers.
